On Friday night, the Voyageurs women's hockey team earned their second win of the season as they shut out the UOIT Ridgebacks 1-0 for their first win over the Ridgebacks in program history.
The first period was scoreless, despite the Ridgebacks controlling the play. Karen Collins stopped all 20 shots she faced in the first frame, while the Voyageurs were only able to get five on net in the other end.
The scoreless tie was broken early in the second period, as Natalie Lamarche scored her first career OUA goal, assisted by Sara Habal, at 2:06 of the second period. Collins again made saves on all 12 shots she faced as well as weathering three UOIT powerplays.
Lamarche's goal would prove to be enough and the eventual game-winner as neither team scored in the third period.
Collins' 39 save shutout was her second of this young season and the Voyageurs are now 2-2 on the season and will look to make it two wins in a row tomorrow night at Queen's.
