MSOC | Tagliafierro Stepping Down as Men’s Soccer Coach

The Laurentian Voyageurs and men's soccer head coach, Tony Tagliafierro, are announcing he is stepping down from his role as head coach.  A Voyageur for over 20 years, transitioning from player to assistant coach to head coach for the past four seasons, Tagliafierro still bleeds blue and gold.  However, with a growing young family at home and the demands of a full-time coach ever increasing, Tagliafierro has made the tough decision to step away from the sidelines.

"This decision wasn't easy but it's what's best for the program, the players and most importantly, my family," comments Tagliafierro.  "This program has been a huge part of my life and the friendships and relationships made will always hold a special place in my heart.  The opportunity to work with an incredible staff and several young men over the last few years has been a great experience.  I would argue that I've learned as much from them on how to be a role model and leader as much as they have from me about the game."

"I want to thank Peter for his trust in making me the head coach in both the interim role as well as when it became full time. His support, along with that of Varsity Coordinator, Bryan Carruthers, made several administrative aspects of the position far less cumbersome which allowed me the ability to focus on coaching and mentoring the players."

Athletic Director Peter Hellstrom knows this decision wasn't easy, but it's one that he respects.  "Tony has been an incredible member of the Voyageurs family and I think he has done a fantastic job with the program, which is why we were excited to bring him on in a full-time role just 15 months ago.  But I also know that there are only so many hours in a day and so many days in a week and for Tony to step up and say 'If I give everything to the program that it needs and deserves, it's at the expense of quality time with my family, which I can't do', I absolutely respect that.  It's going to be weird not seeing Tony pacing the technical area pitchside next September but he leaves the program with a strong foundation of young men and, that he is staying with us until he can pass the baton, speaks to his dedication to the program."
