WSOC | Ribeiro Stepping Down as Head Coach
Voyageurs women's soccer coach, Randy Ribeiro, has informed the department that he will be stepping down from his role. Ribeiro joined the program two years ago as the leadership shifted from a part-time coach model to a full-time position.
"Having the opportunity to coach Laurentian is something that I will be forever thankful for," commented Ribeiro. "I want to say a big thank you to Pete (Hellstrom) and Bryan (Carruthers) for their constant support during my time coaching the Voyageurs and their trust in me to lead the program over the last two years. To the players and staff- thank you for helping me grow into a better coach but more importantly a better person. I wish all of you the best in what's to come and I'm excited to watch the program move forward in a positive direction."
For Athletic Director, Peter Hellstrom, this news was not anything he anticipated.
"The call was definitely a shock to get," he commented. "However, I know that Randy feels this is the best for him and I respect his decision. We want to thank Randy for his time at Laurentian and I wish him all the best in his future endeavours. The focus now shifts to finding his successor."
That search for a new coach begins immediately while Ribeiro will stay in his role through the end of July to ensure there is a smooth transition heading into training camp, which begins August 15th.
