WCURL | Laurentian Women Finish 2-2 at OUA Curling Championship
The Laurentian women's curling team closed out play at the 2026 Ontario University Curling Championship with a 2-2 record during round-robin play competition on Friday and Saturday, narrowly missing out on a spot in Sunday's playoff rounds.
Laurentian opened the event with a strong 7-2 win over York, setting the tone early by capitalizing with the hammer and limiting York's scoring chances. Skip Bella Lehtimaki-Croisier guided the squad through a controlled performance, with consistent execution from Val Ouimet, Piper Lehtikami-Croisier, and Mya Smith throughout the eight ends.
The Vees later fell 6-3 to McMaster in a closely played contest that remained within reach until a late McMaster surge. Despite disciplined and defensive curling and several forced singles, Laurentian was unable to counter a three-point eighth end that swung the match.
Saturday's action began with a 5-2 victory over Carleton, as Laurentian responded well and dictated pace in a low-scoring game. Strong front-end play allowed the team to manage the house effectively, converting on hammer opportunities to secure the win.
Laurentian wrapped up round-robin play with a 7-3 loss to Trent, where a decisive five-point eighth end completed an otherwise competitive draw. The teams remained close through seven ends before Trent broke out late.
After finishing 2-2 in the round robin, the Voyageurs were in a five-way tie for seventh but missed out on the quarterfinals by less than 17cm in their cumulative last stone draw rankings.
