TRK | Voyageurs come home with four top ten finishes at OUA Track & Field Championships
The Laurentian Voyageurs track & field team travelled to Windsor this past weekend to compete at the OUA Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Windsor.
Leading the way for the Vees in the individual events was senior Keon Wallingford (North Bay) who placed ninth in the men's 3,000 metre event with a time of 8:33.72.
The Voyageurs also placed three relay teams in the top ten. The women's 4 X 800 metre team of Kristen Mrozewski (Sudbury), Sarah Booth (Peterborough), Claire Scholl (Newmarket) and Abby Lanteigne (Sudbury) placed eighth in a time of 9:37.78. This time was just two seconds off the Laurentian school record. The men's 4 X 800 metre team of Brandon Radey (Sudbury), Keon Wallingford (North Bay), TJ Green (Manitoulin) and Patrick Leroux (Wingham) placed ninth in a time of 8:17.26. Rounding out the top ten placing was the men's 4 X 200 metre team of Skyler Savage-Perreault (Sudbury), Josh Kim (Sudbury), Abdul Abiodun (Sudbury) and Tristan Routhier (St. Sixte, QC) who placed tenth in a time of 1:35.36
Other individual results for the women included Diavolitsis placing 14th in the 300 metres in a time of 42.06 seconds. This performance ranks Diavolitsis as the third fastest in school history. Shelley Hladin (Chartierville, QC) placed 15th in the triple jump (11.07 metres) and 17th in the long jump (5.17 metres). Mrozewski placed 17th in the 1,000 metres (3:01.59) and 20th in the 600 metres (1:41.97). Booth placed 21st in the 1,000 metres (3:04.19) and 22nd in the 600 metres (1:42.40).
The women's 4 X 400 metre team of Mrozewski, Booth, Maeve Blake (North Bay) and Diavolitsis placed 11th in a time of 4:14.53. The women's 4 X 200 metre team of Naomi Palmer (Sudbury), Maeva Sullivan (Sudbury), Erika MacNeill (Sudbury) and Diavolitsis placed 12th in a time of 1:54.88.
Individual results on the men's side included Wallingford, 15th in the 1,500 metres (3:59.87); Radey, 15th in the 600 metres (1:23.54; Routhier, 20th in 300 metres (36.50), Evan Jarvis, 27th in 300 metres (37.52); Savage-Perreault, 25th in 60 metres (7.17); Kim, 27th in 60 metres (7.19) and Abiodun, 30th in 60 metres (7.46).
Rounding out the relays for the men was the 4 X 400m team of Radey, Jarvis, Green and Routhier, who placed 11th in a time of 3:38.33.
"I am incredibly proud of the leadership shown this weekend by our graduating athletes, Keon Wallingford, Travis Routhier, Skyler Savage-Perreault, Naomi Palmer, Sarah Booth and Kristen Mrozewski", noted Vees head coach, Darren Jermyn. "They demonstrated both the physical and mental strength to compete in multiple individual and relay events in the deepest conference in the country. They have definitely laid the groundwork for our very young and growing team to build upon moving forward".
