WBB | Laurentian Falls to Third Ranked TMU
The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Friday night, falling 91–61 to the undefeated TMU Bold, currently ranked number three in Canada. A dominant second half by the hosts proved to be the difference.
TMU opened the game strong, jumping out to a 14–6 lead. Laurentian responded well, battling back to tie the game at 18 after a three from Claudia Pellerin. However, a late triple from TMU's Alex Pino put the Bold ahead 21–18 after the first quarter. TMU stretched the lead to 11 in the second, but the Voyageurs once again clawed back and trailed just 41–34 at halftime.
Out of the break, the Bold completely took control. TMU outscored Laurentian 24–12 in the third quarter and duplicated the effort in the fourth, holding the Vees to just 25 total second-half points. TMU built their largest lead—35 points—with under four minutes remaining before closing out the 30-point victory.
TMU's offensive firepower was on full display as Catrina Garvey, Myriam Kone, and Kait Nichols combined for 58 points and nine made threes. Laurentian received solid performances from Claudia Pellerin, who scored 16, and Molly Adams, who provided 10 points off the bench. The Bold controlled the glass all night, outrebounding Laurentian by 14. They also forced nine more turnovers than the Vees, converting them into a 10-point edge in points off turnovers.
Laurentian will look to bounce back quickly as they face the University of Toronto on Saturday afternoon.
