The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team hoped to open 2026 on a strong note, but a dominant second half from the Brock Badgers handed them an 82–45 defeat on Saturday night.

Playing at home, Brock got off to a blistering start, jumping out to a 10–0 lead. Laurentian eventually settled in, and a three-pointer from Megan Axiak helped trim the deficit to seven by the end of the opening quarter. The Voyageurs carried that momentum into the second, scoring seven quick points—including a Claudia Pellerin triple—to tie the game at 20. However, Brock responded before the break, closing the half on a strong run to take a 35–27 lead into halftime.

The second half belonged entirely to the Badgers. Brock dominated both ends of the floor, outscoring Laurentian 47–18 over the final 20 minutes and cruising to their eighth win of the season. Despite winning four of their final five games before the holiday break, the Voyageurs struggled to find their rhythm and suffered their most lopsided loss of the year.

Emilie Lafond was the lone bright spot for Laurentian, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds. For Brock, Madalyn Weinert led the way with a dominant double-double, pouring in 28 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Shooting struggles plagued the Voyageurs, as they finished with a season-low 21.4% from the field, while Brock shot an efficient 44.6%.

Laurentian will look to regroup when they return home next weekend to host McMaster and Algoma.
