The Laurentian Men's Basketball team endured a tough night on the road, falling 87-60 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday night in Thunder Bay. After a competitive first half, the Voyageurs couldn't keep pace following the break, as Lakehead pulled away with a dominant third-quarter run, evening Laurentian's record at 8-8 on the season.

The opening quarter saw both teams trading baskets, with Brice Fandio getting Laurentian heated up with a pair of drives to the rim. Ismael Konate controlled the glass, giving the Vees second-chance opportunities to stay within reach. Despite the early effort, Lakehead held a slight edge after one, leading 19-15.

Laurentian found some rhythm in the second quarter. Fandio continued to thrash to the basket, while Evan Boudreau-Monro and Keenan Morain provided scoring from the perimeter. Konate added a strong finish through contact as the Vees kept the game tight heading into halftime, still trailing by single digits.

The match shifted dramatically in the third frame in Lakehead's favour. The hosts came out of the break with intensity, knocking down shots from beyond the arc and capitalizing on Laurentian's turnovers. The Thunderwolves' run quickly ballooned the lead into double digits, and the Vees struggled to find consistent offence, finishing the game with just over 33% shooting from the field. Despite buckets from Fandio and Konate, Laurentian couldn't slow the momentum and trailed heavily after three.

The fourth quarter offered little relief, as Lakehead continued to control the tempo and extend its advantage. Laurentian battled until the final buzzer, but the deficit proved too large to overcome, resulting in the 87-60 final.

Laurentian looks to regroup moving forward, hoping to capitalize on their scoring chances on Wednesday versus Nipissing, where they have the opportunity to win their first 705 Challenge Cup since 2019.
